What is the difference between Erg Chebbi and Erg Chigaga?

Erg Chebbi (Merzouga) has taller dunes and paved-road access, while Erg Chigaga (beyond M’Hamid) is larger, wilder and reachable only by 4x4 or camel.

Chebbi’s dunes reach about 150 m against Chigaga’s roughly 60 m, and you can drive an ordinary car to Merzouga’s camps. Chigaga demands about two hours of rough piste past the end of the tarmac — solitude is its reward, comfort and access are Chebbi’s.
