Are there scorpions or snakes in the Merzouga dunes?

They exist in the Sahara but are rarely seen around camps, especially in the cooler tourist season — shake out shoes in summer and you will likely never meet one.

Both animals avoid busy, lit areas and human noise, and camp platforms deter them further. In decades of Merzouga tourism, incidents involving guests are vanishingly rare.
